State Record Red Snapper off Texas Coast

Joey Beaver of Victoria caught a 38.75-pound red snapper in the Gulf of Mexico about five miles off Port O' Connor, Texas, on June 1. The fish has been verified by the Texas Parks and Wildlife as breaking the state record for the species. The fish was 40 inches long.

The IGFA All-Tackle world record for red snapper is 50 pounds, 4 ounces, caught off Louisiana in 1996.
